Firefighters from Stevenage bluewatch gave an impressive demonstration to the capabilities of the 45m ALP appliance at St Albans abbey on Tuesday evening.
What is an ALP?
An Aerial Ladder Platform (ALP) is a type of fire engine with a long, extendable hydraulic ladder platform and a basket at the end that can be used to rescue people from height or to deliver water to fires from above.
ALPs are typically used in high-rise buildings, but they can also be used in other situations where access is difficult, such as at collapsed buildings or fires in industrial areas.
