London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone expands today

From October 24th 2021 the size of the original central London zone increased by 18 times larger.

Measuring 380km2 it covers 3.8 million people, the largest in Europe. Covering the withing North and South Circular roads in an attempt to boost air quality.

Drivers who’s vehicles do not comply with minimum emissions standards will need to pay the £12.50 daily charge to drive in the zone. 

• This includes cars, motorcycles, vans and specialist vehicles (up to and including 3.5 tonnes) and minibuses (up to and including 5 tonnes)
• ULEZ: Operates 24 hours a day, midnight to midnight, every day of the year, except Christmas Day (25 December)

You can use TfL’s number-plate checker to see if you have to pay the charge for your vehicle.

Failure to pay will lead to a penalty charge notice of £160, reduced to £80 if paid within a fortnight.

Most diesel cars registered with the DVLA after September 2015 and most petrol cars registered from 2005 onwards are exempt from the charge.

However, if you are parked within the zone but aren’t driving around, you don’t need to pay the charge.
