A knife was recovered at the scene and a 23-year-old man from Watford has been arrested on suspicion of GBH. He remains in police custody.
Detective Inspector Dan Jones said:
“I know that news of this assault may be concerning for the community, but I am pleased that an arrest has already been made as part of our investigation.
“Currently, we believe the people involved are known to one another and through our enquiries we are working hard to establish the exact circumstances around the incident.”
“Detectives have already spoken to several people but are now appealing to the public to get in touch if they believe they have information that could assist the police.”
Inspector Jones added: “The assault happened in a high-traffic area, at a time when there would have been a lot of people around. Our teams would be very interested in speaking to anyone who witnessed suspicious activity – particularly in the Bridle Path/St Albans Road area – last night.
“If you live or work close to these areas, and have either a doorbell camera, CCTV or a dash camera fitted to your car, please review yesterday’s footage immediately and share with us if you think you’ve captured something of significance.”
Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: “This is a distressing incident and violence like this will not be tolerated in Watford. I am grateful to the officers who were on the scene very quickly, arresting a suspect and ensuring the victims were taken to hospital, where they remain in a stable condition. If you have any information, please contact the police.”
