New Broadband rule changes for all customers

A shake-up to the current rules will allow Broadband customers to change suppliers quicker under new plans, says Media regulator Ofcom.

Currently it’s the customer who has to do the leg work when changing between providers including Sky, BT, Virgin, and TalkTalk. 

A new “One Touch Switch” system is due to come into effect in April 2023, which is expected to fastrack the process of changing internet service providers.

It means customers will only have to contact the new company they want to deal with.

Cutting the time it takes to switch to a new operator down to 24 hours, where it is “technically possible.”

Under our new rules, providers will also have to compensate customers if things go wrong and they are left without a service for more than one working day.

The consumer watchdog urges people who are unhappy with their current provider not to wait until the new scheme comes into effect.

This had welcomed by many customers, since more and more continue to work from home following the COVID-19 pandemic, with more people than ever relying on a reliable internet connection for work.

An Ofcom study revealed that 4 in 10 Brits have been put off from trying to move services because of the complicated and timely process.
