A special concert to mark HM the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, an unprecedented event in British royal history.
Choral favourites by Parry and Handel, plus a brand new anthem by Thomas Hewitt Jones inspired by speeches by the Queen. The concert features not one, but three local choirs, with organist William Whitehead at the Jubilee Choral Celebration Friday 3rd June at 5.30pm
David Matthews music will be performed throughout the Festival; his ‘Dance for Emma’, written for flautist Emma Halnan, receives its world premiere on Saturday 4th June.
Since working as Benjamin Britten’s assistant in the 1960s this remarkable composer has forged a reputation as one of the UK’s most significant symphonists. Matthews’s music unashamedly embraces his own brand of tonality, and he retains a firm commitment to a music that is grounded in song and dance and is connected to the vernacular.
A programme book for all Festival events will be available HERE , or visit the website.
David was interviewed by Frances Wilson who writes on classical music as The Cross-Eyed pianist.
