In a bid to enhance environmental sustainability, Watford Borough Council is aligning with the practices of 80% of councils nationwide by transitioning to fortnightly recycling collections.

Starting from October 21, 2024, this change specifically affects low-rise properties, where blue-lidded bins will now be collected every two weeks.
The shift to fortnightly collections represents a greener approach to recycling. By reducing the frequency of collection vehicles on our roads, the council aims to decrease carbon emissions significantly. While other waste collections remain unchanged, this adjustment offers better value for money and encourages responsible recycling practices.
Watford residents who diligently separate and recycle their waste deserve applause. Thanks to their efforts, Watford ranks in the top 20% of English councils for recycling. However, if your blue-lidded bin fills up quickly each week, consider these tips to maximize space:
If your current 140-litre blue-lidded bin isn’t sufficient, you can swap it for a standard 240-litre bin. Households with four or more permanent residents can even apply for a second 240-litre blue-lidded bin to accommodate their recycling needs. Apply by clicking here before September 8, 2024, and receive your new bin free of charge before the service change¹.
Watford’s commitment to sustainability ensures a greener future for the community. Let’s continue recycling responsibly and contributing to a cleaner environment!
