Arrests made in A41 drive-by shooting near Watford

Arrests have been made for Attempted Murder following the drive-by shooting on the A41 North Western Avenue. Police say it is linked with recent targeted attacks around Watford, Herts Police have confirmed.

UPDATE: Six people have been arrested, questioned by detectives and released on bail. They are:

  • two 18-year-old men from Watford
  • 19-year-old woman from Bushey
  • 20-year-old man from Watford
  • 23-year-old woman from Edgware
  • 26-year-old man from Pinner.

On Saturday 27 July, Emmanjuel Nyanutenha, aged 18, of King George Avenue, Watford, appeared at Hatfield Magistrates’ Court charged with attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place on Brocklesbury Close on Wednesday 24 July.

He was remanded in custody to appear at St Albans Crown Court on Tuesday 27 August.

The section or road remains cordoned off. Roads were closed at around 5.20pm yesterday (July 25) and the man in his 20s is in hospital fighting for his life.

Police are urgently seeking witnesses, information, and dash cam footage following a serious incident on the A41 North Western Avenue in Watford last night (Thursday, July 25). According to reports, at approximately 5:20 PM near Junction 5, a man riding an e-bike suffered a severe injury during an altercation involving occupants of a black BMW. The BMW fled the scene in the direction of the M1.

Emergency services promptly responded, transporting the injured man, who is in his 20s, to the hospital. His condition is believed to be life-threatening. As part of the investigation, road closures have been implemented in both directions.

These closures are expected to remain in effect throughout today (Friday, July 26).

Targeted Attacks

The Watford Observer reports rumours of a second violent incident yesterday evening in Waterfields Way, near Lower High Street – which police have now told the newspaper was connected to the shooting.

they continue to report that following the shooting, an 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder, while a 17-year-old girl has been arrested on suspicion of assisting offenders. One of the incidents it is being connected with is a stabbing in Brocklesbury Close, Watford, at 12.15am on Wednesday (July 24). Two 18-year-old men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remain in police custody.Another stabbing less than two hours earlier in Clarendon Road, which saw a man in his 20s taken to hospital, is also being linked.

There has been another linked incident which happened on Wednesday (July 10) at 4pm.

which reportedly involved suspects brandishing a gun at the victim who was sitting on a bench outside Watford High Street Railway Station.

Police Response

Detective Chief Inspector Katie Dounias, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, said: “We’d like to hear from anyone who was in the area around the time of this incident and saw what happened or has dash cam footage. We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the black BMW in the vicinity at the time of the incident.

“Arrests have been made in connection with last night’s incident.”

Watford Chief Inspector Andy Wiseman added: “Following further intelligence which has come to light, we are now treating previous reports of targeted violence in Watford as connected.

“I understand news of this incident will be of concern to the community, and you can expect to see additional officers in the area as investigations are being carried out to determine the circumstances of what happened.

“The section of the A41 from Woodmere Avenue to the Berrygrove roundabout is to remain closed today until those investigations are concluded.”

Councillor Aga Dychton, Deputy Mayor and Portfolio Holder for Community said: “We commend the extraordinary efforts of our police partners for making numerous arrests within 24 hours of the recent incidents in Watford. Their swift action underscores Watford’s Community Safety Partnership’s commitment to ensuring the safety of our community. We want to reassure residents that this was a targeted incident, and there is no broader threat to public safety. Officers will be present in the area, along with councillors, to provide reassurance and the council will continue to support the ongoing investigation.”
