Woman Run Over by Two Trains Becomes First to Use AI Bionic Arm

A woman who was run over by two trains in London last year has become the first person in the world to use an AI bionic arm.

Sarah de Lagarde, 44, lost her right arm and leg in the accident, which happened when she fell between the platform and a train carriage at High Barnet station.

De Lagarde has been fitted with a £250,000 bionic arm that uses artificial intelligence to read her thoughts. The arm is controlled by a chip that is implanted in her brain, and it can be used to perform a variety of tasks, including picking up objects, typing, and even brushing her teeth.

“It’s like having a new limb,” de Lagarde said. “It’s amazing to be able to do things that I thought I would never be able to do again.”

The bionic arm was developed by a team of engineers at Covvi, a British company that specializes in prosthetics. The company’s CEO, James Tynan, said that the arm is a “significant breakthrough” in the field of bionics.

“This is the first time that an AI bionic arm has been used to help someone who has lost a limb in a traumatic accident,” Tynan said. “It’s a major step forward in our quest to give people back their independence.”

De Lagarde is still undergoing rehabilitation, but she is hopeful that she will be able to use the bionic arm to return to her job as a communications manager. She also plans to use the arm to raise awareness of the challenges faced by people who have lost limbs.

“I want to show people that it’s possible to live a full and active life even after a devastating accident,” de Lagarde said. “I’m not going to let this define me.”

De Lagarde’s story is a testament to the power of technology to help people overcome even the most challenging of circumstances. The bionic arm has given her a new lease on life, and it has inspired her to help others who have been injured. She is an inspiration to us all.
