
A fire in the YMCA Charter Place Watford saw evacuations and road closures put in place.
Nine Fire Engines, a command support unit and six police were at the scene at around 10:00pm.
Over 100 residents evacuated after fire alarms sounded in the hostel and waited in Beechen Grove Car Park.
Watford Police posted “We are currently assisting the fire service at the scene of a fire in Charter Place. Road closures are in place and we advise motorists to avoid the area.”
A resident told us he could see smoke on the 3rd floor as he made his way down to the exit.
Buses could not continue into or around the town’s ring road.
The fire was extinguished by around 11.15pm.
