Indian Takeaway closed after police raid found Class A Drugs worth thousands of pounds

An Indian takeaway in St Albans and it’s rear garage are now off limits after police achieved full Closure Orders for both premises.

The India Garden on Catherine Street had several reports about drugs.

On Friday 4 February Police carried out a section 23 drugs warrant to search the premises which uncovered large quantity of Class A drugs, suspected to be worth thousands of pounds, which were seized and a 50-year-old man arrested for possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

St Albans Police Community Safety Unit (CSU) gathered evidence, and on Friday 25 February 2022, St Albans Magistrates’ Court granted the Closure Orders on the takeaway and rear garage, used as a storage facility.

Nobody is allowed to enter the premises for three months.  Anyone who breaches the Orders could be arrested and fined, imprisoned or both.

Sergeant Mike Saunders, from the CSU, said: “We hope this latest development will reassure the public that we are listening and will take appropriate action where necessary.  Everyone deserves to feel safe and happy in the community.  We are committed to doing everything in our power to deal with suspected drug related incidents or anti-social behaviour and these Closure Orders are a significant step in protecting the community.”

“Anyone with information about anti-social behaviour or drug related activity in their neighbourhood is urged to please report the details to us, so that we can take appropriate action to make your community safer.  Your calls can make a real difference.”
