Sirens could be heard as more police joined in the chase the mopeds making a getaway around Croxley busines park.
Herts Police: “Police were called at around 7.50pm on Wednesday 15 June to report that a moped had been stolen from Raven Close in Watford.
Three young cyclists said the moped nearly hit them and were shouted at to get out of the way.
Five police cars and a police van attended and caught up with the moped in the Ascot Road area.
It was then abandoned and the rider made off on foot in the direction between Morrisons and Toyota and onto the Hollywell estate before being detained by police.
A second moped, believed to be involved in the incident, also made off from officers.
With assistance from the Dog Unit, it was located a short time later in the Moor View area and a 17 year old male was detained and arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and possession of cannabis.
An 18-year old man was also arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and taking a vehicle without consent.
Both remain in police custody at this time.
Enquiries are continuing.”
The cyclists confirmed seeing police arresting one of the males, while the two other males made a getaway on foot towards the nearby hollywell estate.
The cyclists said the riders did not appear to have helmets, but ski type masks.
An officer remained while waiting for the moped to be impounded.
