A centuries’ old tradition the Accession of the new monarch, King Charles III took place this afternoon at the Peace Memorial in Watford.

At 4pm in Watford and other districts across the country, announcing that the Queen has died, and the King has acceded the throne.

Chair of Watford Borough Council leads followed by The Mayor and Reverend

Led by the Mayor Peter Taylor Council chair Amanda Grimston introduced proclamation proclamation for King Charles III today.

Following the Proclamation, Peter Taylor spoke his closing remarks. Amanda Grimston returned to the stand, All those present hailed “God Save the King”.

The Reverend Tony Rindl said prayers on behalf of all faiths for the new sovereign, then Watford’s communities joined together to sing the National Anthem.

In attendance: Luther Blissett OBE, MP Dean Russell (Conservative), Ian Stotesbury (LibDem), Matthew Turmaine (Labour), councillor Asif Khan, Former Chairman Keith Crout, Councillor Tim Williams, Councillor Rabi Martins, Ian Port, David Silverston (Rotary Club), Martyn & Sue Tom Sawyers parents, Vibe DJ Lee Partridge. Also joining in was Baroness Dorothy Thornhill MBE.

King Charles III is proclaimed to the nation as new head of state on 10th September.

King Charles III, formerly known as The Prince of Wales, was born in 1948 and became heir apparent on the accession of Queen Elizabeth II in 1952. Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, a new Sovereign has acceded to The Throne.

Peter Taylor posted “It was such an honour to be part of this ceremony, and on behalf of the town to send our new King our best wishes”

Chairman of the Council, Cllr Amanda Grimston said in a statement “I join with the whole of Watford in sending our new King best wishes for a long and successful reign.”

Meanwhile Her Majesty The Queen’s coffin has travelled from Balmoral Castle to the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

At Buckingham Palace, The King today held an Audience with the Commonwealth Secretary-General and later, accompanied by The Queen Consort, held a reception with High Commissioners from the Realms of the Commonwealth.
