Elstree Studios New name lights up

A slick new sign has appeared on the skyline in Borehamwood – helping to announce Hertsmere’s bright future in TV and film production.

The ‘Platinum Stages’ sign, pictured below, was installed on the roof of the new soundstages at Elstree Studios by contractors RG Carter last week and just a couple of weeks after Her Majesty the Queen celebrated her Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years on the throne.

The illuminated fascia sign is 1.2 metres high and 16 metres across and sits in the front left hand corner of the stages, which have a combined workable footprint of 3,210 square metres, about half the size of a professional football pitch. It’s visible from a number of key locations, including Tesco car park.

The new stages, which are clad in innovative timber cassettes, have been designed to meet international space standards in studio design and can be used as two separate stages or a combined super-sized one. The stages will create hundreds of new jobs, plus apprenticeship and other learning opportunities.

The name for the stages was selected from more than 400 entries in a two-week national competition held at the end of last year.

The Platinum Stages is a £15.6 million project part-funded by Hertsmere Borough Council and the government’s Getting Building Fund via the Hertfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership.
