On March 14th, the M1 motorway between Brent Cross and Watford in Hertfordshire was closed due to reports of a person falling from a bridge.
The incident occurred around 9:45 am and prompted an immediate response from the emergency services.
Herts Police set up a cordon and closed both the southbound and northbound lanes of the motorway between junctions 4 and 5. This led to significant traffic delays and commuters were advised to find alternative routes and avoid the area if possible.
The nature of the police “incident” was not immediately clear, but the authorities responded promptly to the situation.
A spokesperson for Herts Police said: “Police were called at around 9.45am on Tuesday 14 March following an incident on the M1 northbound, between junctions 4 and 5. It was reported that a person had fallen from a bridge.
“Emergency services are on scene and road closures are currently in place in both directions. Motorists are asked to please avoid the area and check the latest travel information before making any journeys.”
All lanes were re-opened at around 1.35pm, meaning that the motorway was closed for around four hours.
Some planned closures in the region tonight:
22:00 – 05:00
M11 northbound J6 to J7
M1 southbound J13 to J12
M1 southbound J4 to J1
22:00 – 05:30
