Microsoft AI Announces New London Hub Led by DeepMind and Inflection Co-founder Mustafa Suleyman

Microsoft AI, a recently formed organisation dedicated to advancing consumer AI products and research, including Copilot, is thrilled to announce its opening of a new AI hub in the heart of London.

This hub will focus on pioneering work in state-of-the-art language models, supporting infrastructure, and world-class tooling for foundation models, collaborating closely with partners, including OpenAI.

Leading the charge is Mustafa Suleyman, a renowned AI leader and co-founder of both DeepMind and Inflection AI. Suleyman, a British citizen born and raised in London, brings a wealth of experience and passion for fostering a thriving UK AI ecosystem. He will be joined by a talented team of Microsoft AI specialists based in the London Paddington office.

The UK boasts a remarkable pool of AI talent, and Microsoft is committed to a significant, long-term investment in the region. The new hub will actively recruit exceptional AI scientists and engineers to tackle the most intriguing and challenging questions in the field.

“We’re looking for team members driven by large-scale impact,” says Suleyman, “who are passionate innovators eager to contribute to a culture of continuous learning.”

This news signifies a positive step forward for both Microsoft AI and the UK. Suleyman highlights his deep understanding of the UK’s exceptional AI talent and unwavering commitment to responsible AI development. Microsoft AI’s decision to establish a hub in the UK reflects this shared vision for advancing responsible AI and fueling economic growth.

The Microsoft AI London hub builds upon Microsoft’s established presence in the UK, including the Microsoft Research Cambridge lab. This new venture also complements Microsoft’s recent £2.5 billion investment to enhance the UK workforce’s AI skills and establish the infrastructure for a robust AI economy.

Stay tuned for further updates as Microsoft AI continues to push the boundaries of AI and empower individuals and organizations across the UK.
