Police appeal after report of an Armed Man wearing a cowboy hat

Herts Police are appealing for anyone who might have dashcam footage following suspicious incident in London Colney.

[A man has since been charged]

Several police cars with Specialist armed response officers and a police dog unit attended and put a temporary road closure in place.

Yesterday (Wednesday 21 September) after 3pm, a member of the public reported they had seen a man standing by the A414 roundabout, next to the London Colney bypass, holding an what they believed to be a firearm.

The man was described as wearing a long trench coat and a cowboy hat.

Two men were arrested at the scene.

Detective Inspector Adrian Lysak said: “Understandably, a report of this nature is likely to cause significant concern among the local community and I am aware that there has been some speculation on social media regarding the large police presence in the area.

“Officers conducted a thorough search of the area, utilising the specially trained firearms detection dogs, and no weapons were found. We have arrested two men in connection with this incident, and they remain in police custody at this time. A thorough investigation is now underway.

“This is a busy road, and I suspect several people may have witnessed this incident taking place. If you have any information that you think may assist with our enquiries, please get in touch as soon as possible.

“I’d also like to ask anyone who was in the vicinity of the London Colney bypass around the time specified who have a dash cam fitted to their vehicle to please review the footage in case they have captured footage of the incident or the events leading up to it.”

Anyone with information is asked to please email DI Lysak.   crime reference ISR 470 of 21/09
