Two teenage boys charged in connection with a fire at a block of flats in Watford

The boys, aged 13 and 14, who are both from the Watford but cannot be named for legal reasons due to their age.

The boys have been charged with arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered.

The fire caused hundreds to be evacuated from the tall high rise tower block in Garmouths Way on the Meriden estate. Extensive damaged was caused and 5 properties were left inhabitable.

They have appeared before a remand court yesterday (Wednesday 13 July) where they were released on conditional bail.

They are next due to appear before the courts on Wednesday 27 July.

Detective Inspector Chris Parperi, from the Watford Local Crime Unit, said: “We appreciate that this incident has, understandably, caused a great deal of concern among the local community and officers remain in the area to provide reassurance.

“This was a fast-moving investigation which has now seen two teenagers charged and the case will progress through the courts.
