Met Police detective charged after Indecently Exposing himself on Hampstead Heath

Dariusz Alexander, 48, has been suspended following an alleged off-duty incident has been dismissed following a misconduct hearing which concluded on Monday, 10 July.

Detective Constable Dariusz Alexander, attached to the Roads and Transport Policing Command (RTPC), was found to have breached the standards of professional behaviour in relation to discreditable conduct.

A serving Metropolitan Police officer has appeared in court accused of outraging public decency on Hampstead Heath.

Detective Constable Dariusz Alexander, 48, was off duty at the time when he was arrested by two fellow officers on the north London heath on a Saturday afternoon last month.

An allegation of breaching the standards of professional behaviour in relation to authority, respect and courtesy was not proven.

DC Alexander was previously found guilty of outraging public decency following a trial at Stratford Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 22 June.

On Saturday, 18 March, two Met officers were carrying out enquiries relating to an incident which had occurred on Hampstead Heath several days earlier.

As they did so, they saw a man – later identified as DC Alexander – exposing himself. He was arrested and charged and later suspended from duty.

The allegations were found proven and they were so serious as to justify dismissal.

Varinder Hayre, prosecuting, told the court that Mr Alexander was seen by two police officers on the heath on March 18.

She said: “They were trying to retrieve some CCTV for a different allegation in Hampstead Heath park.

“One said he had seen a couple walking past the area, along with some others passing by. It was a Saturday, so children were off school.”

She added: “There is high culpability and abuse of position as he was a serving police officer.”

The officer was granted unconditional bail and ordered to appear for trial at Stratford Magistrates’ Court on June 22.

District Judge Shanta Deonarine told Mr Alexander: “There is an obligation on you to attend court. You must attend court, otherwise there will be a warrant issued for your arrest.”

The Met confirmed prior to the hearing that Alexander had been suspended from duty after being charged via postal charge requisition.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: “The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards is aware and the officer has been suspended from duty.

“A referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).”

Detective Superintendent Christina Jessah, in charge of RTPC, said: “Everyone in this organisation knows the high standards expected of them and it is right that those who fall short are held to account.”
