Firefighters tackle large fire at Baldock Industrial Estate

Firefighters and police are tackling a large fire at Baldock Industrial Estate on London Road.

Update: Fire crews are still on scene this morning as the fire is still smoldering. The Roundabout remains closed.

Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said it has “multiple resources in attendance” and have declared it a “major incident”.

Roads nearby were closed by Herts police, as 15 fire fighting appliances, two aerial ladder platforms, a high volume pump, an aerial drone, a command and control unit, an incident support unit, and 11 flexi-duty officers.

The Fire Brigade were called out at 6.15pm to the fire broke out near the town’s Tesco supermarket. Not allowing cars to the Tesco roundabout from High St, London Rd and South Road. They will remain at the fire overnight.

at 11.15pm a power outage has occurred in the SG7 6 postcode location, affection 31 addresses.

The UK Power Networks website reads: “We’ve had to turn off power in your area so our engineers can safely carry out emergency repairs to the network”.

People have been asked to avoid the area and neighbours are advised to keep their windows closed due to the smoke.

Darren Cook, from the fire service, said: “This was a very challenging incident for Hertfordshire Fire and at the peak we had 17 engines attending and we declared it at major incident at about eight o’clock on the evening of the incident.”

More than 40 business units were damaged in the fire at Baldock Industrial estate on Tuesday 11 July, with some people “losing everything”.

A packed meeting was held on Thursday afternoon at Baldock Community Centre for those affected by the fire.

Craig Ross, who has a number of businesses on the site and a unit with five tenants, told the BBC “it was horrific” when he saw the flames.

He said so many business had been affected and local farmers turned up to provide water on the night.

Three boats were lit on fire in Stanstead Abbotts Marina in a worrying incident that required four fire engines. The incident occurred when Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service was called at 10.16pm on Monday (July 10) around reports of a boat fire in Stanstead Abbotts Marina.

The fire service rushed to the scene, including four engines from Cheshunt, Hoddesdon, Ware and Hertford, and a water incident team from Hatfield were called to the worrying fire. Hertfordshire residents were advised to avoid the area where possible and to take alternative routes to avoid the disruption caused by the blaze.

Hertfordshire resident Jay Olson captured footage of the blaze while the fire service rushed to the scene. He said: “I got to the scene at 10pm and firemen were just arriving. It was around 10.20pm when the fire started.

“About three were caught on fire on Stanstead Abbotts Marina, and four fire engines were quick on the scene. Other than that, I’m not exactly sure what caused it.”
