The Iconic Watford Colosseum and Watford Borough Town Hall are undergoing a major makeover as part of an energy performance and low carbon heating improvement project.
The ambitious renovation project will see the iconic building’s over 1,000 windows being retrofitted and a transition to low carbon heating. It is expected that the work is to be completed by the spring/summer 2024, in time for the colosseum to reopen.
The Watford Colosseum is of great historic importance, having seen famous faces including Elton John, Oasis, and One Direction perform. It was also the venue of choice for the film soundtracks of The Sound of Music and Lord of the Rings.
The Watford Town Hall is also of great significance and a Grade II listed building. It is no surprise, then, that the ambitious renovation project is being undertaken to improve the energy performance and transition to low carbon heating of both the Watford Colosseum and Watford Borough Town Hall.
The refurbishment is part of a larger £24.8m investment into the Town Hall Quarter.
A funding grant of £3.2million from the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, covers the cost of the works of both the town hall and Colosseum.
The iconic venue has seen a lot of history in its time and it’s wonderful to see it being given a new lease of life. We look forward to its reopening in the spring.
