For the first time temperatures of 40°C have been forecast in the UK and the Met Office has issued the first ever Red warning for exceptional heat.

Watford is covered by the red weather warning as the national forecaster warns of an “exceptional hot spell on Monday and Tuesday leading to widespread impacts on people and infrastructure.”
London Northwestern Railway has cancelled all services on the Abbey Line and greatly reduced other services from Watford Junction after the Met Office issued its first ever red warning for high heat.
TFL Chief operating officer Andy Lord said: “If customers do need to travel, they should check before they travel as we are expecting there to be some impact to Tube and rail services as a result of temporary speed restrictions, we will need to introduce to keep everyone safe.”
The Hemel Hempstead Splash Park will remain CLOSED today and tomorrow (18th & 19th July) due to excessive heat on the ground. It will reopen on Wednesday 20th July.
