Scamnesty Campaign Against Scams December
Due to the success of last years campaign, the Friends Against Scams Team are once again running a Scamnesty (a scam mail amnesty) campaign
The aim is to encourage everyone in the UK to send in any unwanted scam and nuisance mail that they receive to the National Trading Standards (NTS) Scams Team, completely free of charge.
This campaign runs throughout December and Friends Against Scams’ focus for this week of Scamnesty is catalogue and health mailings such as;
- Health-based scams that might contain scientific terms like “glucose metabolism” or “thermogenesis”. This jargon is used to mislead or confuse consumers.
- Criminals might use fake news stories to make them seem genuine and will often make extreme claims, like it can burn thousands of calories a day or reduce your blood pressure overnight.
- Criminals will make the post personal and address you by name to make it feel as if you’ve been specially selected to receive the mailing.
