Watford 100 YEARS celebration: elected Mayor launches town centenary 💯

On Friday night, Peter Taylor, Elected Mayor of Watford, has officially launched Watford’s centenary year, marking the town’s 100 years as a borough, by lighting a commemorative beacon at Watford Museum.

The Mayor, who was joined by Deputy Mayor, Councillor Aga Dychton and Watford Chairman, Councillor Bilquees Mauthoor, commented: “I am delighted to mark the start of a year of events and activities that will celebrate the past 100 years in our town’s history. Looking back at the photos of Charter Day on 18 October 1922, you can see how excited and proud Watford was to become a borough and I hope that we can recreate that same community spirit during 2022.

As well as the borough centenary, there are a number of other important birthdays being celebrated in Watford in 2022, including:

100 years of Watford FC at Vicarage Road

centenary

50 years of the Pump House Theatre Company

10 years of Watford Cycle Hub

so there will be lots of opportunities to get involved.

I do hope people will join me, and other organisations across the town, in making this an amazing year for Watford!

Chairman, Councillor Mauthoor added: “The last two years have shown how important it is to bring people together as a community. The centenary is a great way to celebrate what makes Watford such a special town and build even stronger links  across our community for the next 100 years”.
