New Hemel Hempstead Crematorium Opens for Public Preview

The West Herts Crematorium Joint Committee is inviting residents and community members to attend two open days to explore the new Hemel Hempstead Crematorium and its services before its official opening in next month.

The new crematorium is located on land adjacent to the new Poppy Fields cemetery at Bedmond Road by Bunkers Park.

It features a remembrance chapel that sits within extensive landscaped grounds. The crematorium will have a capacity of 1,200 cremations per year, which will help to reduce wait times for those using the service.

The Open Days will be held on the following dates:

  • Thursday 3 August – 10am – 4pm
  • Saturday 5 August – 9-1pm

There is no need to book, but attendees are advised that the last tour of the day will be 3pm on Thursday, August 3rd and 12pm on Saturday, August 5th.

During the open days, visitors will be able to take a guided tour of the entire site and learn about the services provided. They will also have the opportunity to see the remembrance chapel and the extensive landscaped grounds.

West Herts Crematorium performs over 3,000 cremations each year, is one of the busiest in the country. The new site opening is expected to help reduce wait times for those using the service.

The West Herts Crematorium Joint Committee is committed to providing a peaceful and dignified environment for families to pay their final respects to their loved ones. The new crematorium is a state-of-the-art facility that will meet the needs of the community for many years to come.

The next Annual Open Air Service of Thanksgiving and Remembrance will be held on Sunday 14th July 2024, to commemorate the lives of those cremated at Garston.
