Notting Hill Carnival 2024 330 arrested for Stabbings, Weapons, and Drugs
This year’s Notting Hill Carnival, held over the August Bank Holiday weekend, was a vibrant celebration of Caribbean culture, but it was also marred by several serious incidents.
There were eight people stabbed, 3 on Sunday and 5 on Monday, with three individuals currently fighting for their lives.
- A 32-year-old woman was with her young child when she was caught in the middle of a fight between two groups of men on Golborne Road.
- A 29-year-old man who sustained serious injuries during the event
- Another individual whose details have not been fully disclosed yet
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Ade Adelekan, in charge of the policing operation for the event, said his officers “very narrowly avoided a fatality” and are “tired of seeing crime scenes” at the street party.
The Metropolitan Police made a total of 330 arrests over the course of the event. These arrests were for various offences, including possession of weapons, assaults, and drug-related crimes.
The Notting Hill Carnival organiser said it works “closely with the Metropolitan Police and many dedicated partners”.
“There is no excuse” for violence and “that is not Carnival”.
“Carnival is the people who dedicate so much time, love and incredible creativity to the parade, sound systems, music, food and costumes,” its statement said.
“The people of Carnival are part of the solution – providing community cohesion, a place for young people to gather, create and express themselves and for all generations and communities to come together, all year round.
“It also benefits London as a whole, generating £369m to the economy, according to a recent study.”
Officers used their search powers to confiscate numerous weapons, including firearms. Two firearms were seized at the Carnival, and another was recovered during a vehicle stop in Harrow, which was en route to Carnival.
More than Thirty-five officers were injured while on duty at the Carnival, and they are receiving full support from the police force.
