Womens football: Watford FC Sign Sophie McLean to the team

Watford FC Women is delighted to welcome midfielder Sophie McLean to the team, and will wear the number 27 shirt.

Watford FC Women are delighted to announce the acquisition of midfielder Sophie McLean from FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division side Billericay Town.

McLean, 26, boasts an impressive resume in the second and third tiers of women’s football, having made 20 appearances in the Championship with Crystal Palace last season before transferring to Billericay in the summer.

Sophie brings a wealth of experience with her, having made 20 appearances in the Championship with Crystal Palace last season. She played 16 games for the Essex-based outfit this season, scoring four goals and appearing for the full 90 minutes in December’s clash with the Hornets at Grosvenor Vale.

McLean is an experienced footballer, having played for West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur, and London Bees in the past. She was part of the team that earned promotion from the National League with Spurs in 2016/17, alongside players like Dré Georgiou, Gemma Davison, and Bianca Baptiste. Most recently, she scored against Watford in a 2-2 draw during the 2021/22 season.
