Fatal Incident of Man Falling from bridge into M1 Traffic Prompts Appeal for Witnesses and Dash Cam Footage

A man in his 30s has been killed in a fatal road traffic collision on the M1 motorway near Watford.

In the early hours of Thursday, October 12, police responded to a distressing incident on the M1 motorway near Watford. Officers were alerted at approximately 1:50 AM, when concerns were raised about a man’s well-being.

He was discovered on the northbound carriageway of the M1, situated between junction 5 (Watford) and junction 6 (north Watford).

To facilitate the emergency response, road closures were swiftly implemented, allowing ambulance and fire and rescue services to attend the scene. These road closures have since been lifted, as authorities conducted their initial investigations.

Regrettably, the man, believed to be in his 30s, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. His grieving family is receiving support from the police during this incredibly difficult time.

Sergeant Alex Ward from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this very difficult time.

“Our enquiries are at a very early stage, but we believe that the man may have fallen from a bridge above the carriageway and subsequently been involved in a collision with a vehicle.

“We are working to identify the vehicle and are appealing to anyone who may have been driving in the area around the time, particularly any HGV drivers or anyone who has any information, to please come forward. If you have a dash cam fitted, please review your footage as you may have captured something that could assist us with our investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to please email Sergeant Ward. or call the non-emergency number 101, quoting ISR 47 of 12 October.
