Watford’s new 24 floor Storey High Rise Tower

Watford Borough Council granted permission to build a high rise with the same 24 floors as Grenfell Tower.

Four years have passed since the tragic fire at Grenfell Tower and we now know there are safety risks within buildings as well as inadequate fire stopping systems. And fire engines that could not reach.

In May 2021, an application was made seeking an enlargement to the northern side of the lower ground to house the required sprinkling system, so that it can cover the whole site and not just black A as originally proposed.

Architectural materials: Brick and Aluminium Facades. Steel Balconies.  Composite PVC windows.

In July 2017 Orion achieved planning for a mixed-use development led by 485 new homes, including 170 affordable. This new community will include cafes, shops, and space dedicated to community use, along a pedestrianised boulevard including woodland gardens, a tree-lined walk and landscaped areas.

Cllr Peter Jeffree, Chair of the Management Development Committee, said: “This scheme brings a significant investment to the Western Gateway, a priority area for Watford in the Draft Local Plan as well as much-needed affordable homes for our community.

To complete 2,470 new homes, with a draft of 14,000 new homes.  400 in the Riverwell scheme (2015-2035), 500 in Sydney Road, and around 500 in Ascot Road. Of the 2,470 approved homes, 920 have been built.
