Two people fall ill after eating sweets laced with ‘synthetic substance’ needed hospital treatment

The two were reportedly offered some sweets at a Christmas event in Herts, which later caused them to experience adverse reactions.

They contained a harmful substance, Police said one has been left with life-changing injuries.

It happened at the Aubrey Park Hotel in Redbourn on Saturday evening, 10th December.

They both required hospital treatment and later it was discovered, unknown to the victims, that the sweets contained synthetic cannabis.

One victim has been left with life changing injuries, due to the reaction the drug caused. The second victim experienced minor illness, police said.

PC C-Jay Callaghan, who is investigating, said: “I would like to re-assure the community that this was an isolated incident involving people who are believed to be known to each other. We are following up all lines of enquiry and would therefore like to hear from anyone who may have attended the event and witnessed what happened.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the incident in Redbourn.
