The new charging points will be installed in a variety of locations throughout the town, including residential areas, public car parks, and retail parks. This will make it easier for residents and visitors to charge their EVs, and encourage more people to switch to electric vehicles.

The installation of the new charging points is part of a wider strategy by Watford Council to reduce its carbon footprint. The council has already taken a number of steps to reduce its emissions, including investing in renewable energy and improving energy efficiency.

The installation of the new charging points is a further step by Watford Council to become a more sustainable town. The council is committed to creating a cleaner, healthier environment for its residents and visitors.

Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: “We are delighted that we will be installing 79 new EV charging points across the town. This is a significant step towards our goal of reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable transport. It is really important that we have the charging infrastructure in place so that people can switch to EV vehicles.

“Watford’s commitment to green transport has already resulted in significant achievements, including being ranked in the top 5 UK towns. This achievement is a testament to the town’s commitment to a cleaner environment and underscores the importance of investing in sustainable transport infrastructure for a cleaner, more sustainable future.”

Cllr Ian Stotesbury, Portfolio Holder for Transport and Sustainability, said: “We are delighted to have obtained this funding that will enable us to extend our EV charging infrastructure, facilitating the utilisation of electric vehicles. As a council, we are dedicated to decreasing carbon emissions in the borough by implementing various initiatives.

“A significant number of individuals in Watford already use electric vehicles, which are proven to decrease pollution and enhance local air quality. Thus, it is crucial to have an adequate charging infrastructure in place, and I would like to express my gratitude to the hardworking team that obtained this grant funding”
