What are the Highest Tallest Buildings in Watford?

Watford, Hertfordshire has traditionally been a town with a low skyline. However, that has changed due to new developments required in a push to increase housing.

New pictures and video reveal the progress of these major housing developments including Watford’s tallest building.

Eight Gardens on St Albans Road

The Eight Gardens on St Albans Road is set to become the tallest building in Watford upon completion. It’s a major development featuring 1,265 new homes, with the highest towers reaching a staggering 28 storeys.

Construction began in 2021 and is expected to be finished by 2030. The project occupies the former site of The Range and TK Maxx stores.

While there might have been earlier plans for a mixed-use development at The Eight Gardens, currently it’s being built exclusively as a residential project.

Cortland Cassiobury in Ascot Road

The Cortland Cassiobury development holds the title of currently having the tallest completed building in Watford. This distinction goes to the 24-storey tower that’s part of the wider Cortland Cassiobury project.

While the entire development offers a mix of apartment buildings, the tower stands out as the highest point. It features 135 rental apartments and boasts amenities on the ground floor.

Clarendon apartment tower block

The 37 Clarendon Road building is also a Grade A office space including café, roof terrace, gym and fitness suite, and it is the third tallest building in Watford at 24 storeys.

The building is located within a short walk of Watford Junction station which provides fast services to/from London Euston in a fastest journey time of 15 minutes.

Existing Meriden Flats

The Meriden Twin Towers, Munden View and Abbey View are the oldest tallest buildings in Watford, they were built in the 1960s and have 17 storeys with 94 dwellings each.

The apartments have been refurbished in recent years and now have modern kitchens and bathrooms. The M1 motorway is also nearby, making the Meriden Flats a convenient base for commuting to London or other parts of the country.

YMCA Watford

This multi-storey structure isn’t just a recognizable part of the skyline; it’s a hub of activity offering vital services to the community. Conveniently located near the Atria Watford shopping centre, the YMCA building caters to a wide range of needs.

The most prominent aspect of the YMCA building is its youth hostel providing accommodation and support for vulnerable individuals.

Meanwhile, nearly all of Sydney Road has had multiple new blocks, including one that backs onto Whippendell Road.
