Kyle Clifford charged with Crossbow Murders of Three Women in Bushey

London, September 17, 2024 — Kyle Clifford, the 26-year-old man has appeared in court accused of murdering three women in a crossbow attack at their home.

The horrific crossbow attack claimed the lives of Carol Hunt (61) and her two daughters, Louise (25) and Hannah (28). They were the wife and daughters of BBC racing commentator John Hunt.

John Hunt’s daughter ‘feared she was about to die’ in a call to 999 before her death. Carol died from stab wounds to her chest and abdomen, her daughters Hannah and Louise died from crossbow bolt injuries, an inquest was told on July 30.

The devastating attack took place on July 9 on Ashlyn Close, Bushey, Hertfordshire. The victims were the wife and daughters of BBC racing commentator John Hunt.

Clifford from Rendlesham Road, Enfield, was charged last night and is facing three counts of murder, along with charges of false imprisonment and two counts of possession of offensive weapons.

During a brief court hearing, it was revealed that the weapons Mr Clifford was accused of using were an MX-405 compact crossbow and a 10-in (25cm) “butcher’s knife”.

“Police attended the property – they found the front door was open,” Mr Burns said.

“They found Hannah Hunt lying in the doorway. She had been shot by a crossbow in the chest.

“They went into the property and they found Louise Hunt had been tied to a chair, also injured by a crossbow.”

Mr Clifford appeared at court via video link from Kempston police station, in Bedfordshire. Due to a “voice injury” he nodded when asked to confirm his name and address.

In the aftermath of the incident, a fundraiser launched to support Mr Hunt and his surviving daughter, Amy has raised over £120,000 in donations pledged.

In a previous statement, Mr. Hunt and Amy expressed their deep sorrow over the tragic loss “cannot be put into words”

Det Ch Insp Nick Gardner, of Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, said: “We have been working hard to gather as much evidence as possible and establish the full circumstances of what happened that day.

“Although it has taken some time to reach this stage, we can now move forward with the judicial process and seek justice for their family.”
