Husnein Amjad, aged 24, of Fuller Road, Watford, was found guilty of killing his 52-year-old father, Amjad Hussain, following a 13-day trial at St Albans Crown Court.

The court heard that Amjad had brutally beaten his father to death inside their family home on October 28, 2021. The hour-long assault with a belt, kicks and punches was recorded on a mobile phone by his mother Shabham Bi because of rumours her husband had married a woman in Pakistan.

Amjad had attempted to hand himself in at Watford Police Station earlier that day, but was unaware that his father had not yet succumbed to his injuries.

Amjad pleaded guilty to manslaughter in April 2022, but denied murder. However, the jury unanimously found him guilty of murder on Thursday, December 7.

Judge John Hillen sentenced Amjad to life in prison with a minimum of 17 years before he can be considered for parole.

Detective Chief Inspector Sam Khanna, from the Major Crime Unit, said: “This was an assault within the family house that has sadly resulted in a family losing a husband and father.

“This has been an extensive investigation and a sad case that Amjad will now need to reflect on from behind bars. My thoughts remain with Mr Hussain’s family and friends at this difficult time and following today’s sentencing.”
